LARNE FIGHT BACK AS GLENS SURRENDER TWO GOAL LEAD
Glentoran and Larne went head-to-head at the BetMcLean Oval and battled to an equal share of the four goals on offer.
The Glens needed to defeat outgoing champions Larne to maintain any hope of overhauling leaders Linfield but despite leading by two goals early in the second half they let that advantage slip and now join the battle for the runners-up spot.
Declan Devine’s side moved in front on 11 minutes when Joe Thomson turned home a half-volley through a corner area after Ciaran Coll’s initial long throw-in was only partially cleared by the visitors.
Thomson struck again to double Glentoran’s lead not long after the interval with a half hit shot into the corner of the net after Dylan Connolly had cut the ball back.
But Larne responded just before the hour through Paul O’Neill who fired home from point blank range following a scramble in the box.
Then, midway through the second half, Andy Ryan levelled for Larne from the spot after Sean Graham had been upended by Aaron Wightman as he ran onto Aaron Donnelly’s through ball.
